GitLab CI allows you to run predefined processes for each new change, for example, to convert LaTeX scripts into finished PDFs. “CI” stands for “Continious Integration”. In addition to the “Issues“ and “Merge Requests”, which we are less interested in at this point, an important component is the so-called “GitLab CI”.
GitLab is a web application that allows you to manage Git projects and allows multiple people to collaborate on a project. For this purpose, GitLab is used in this article. Of course you can also create and edit your own LaTeX documents in this folder.īefore being able to upload these changes to a server, a so-called “remote” configuration must be configured. With the help of your favorite text editor the files essay.tex and bibliography.bib can now be edited. In the latter case, all files of my Template for the Basic Physical Internship at the TU Darmstadt have been downloaded and are located in the folder tuda_latex_template_grundpraktikum. To start using it, open the commandline/PowerShell (on Windows with Shift + right click, “Open PowerShell window here”) and then either use git init to create a new, so-called “repository” or clone an already existing one: Git takes care that no changes to a local file are lost and local changes are synchronized with those of other developers.
Compile latex to pdf folder software#
Git is a software that is the de facto standard in software development for managing the various different files in a project and making it easy to collaborate with other developers.
If you're already familiar with Git and GitLab, and you're only interested in configuring GitLab CI, you can jump straight to the bottom of the page to. As you can see, experience with Git is helpful, but I will explain everything in detail in the following article. This is possible thanks to Git, Docker, GitLab, and most importantly, GitLab CI.
Compile latex to pdf folder download#
About half a minute later you can download the finished PDF in your browser. If you want to compile this source file, you upload it to a server. The basic idea is as follows: Locally on your own computer you edit the LaTeX source, which is for example stored in a file named essay.tex.
